At auction is a rare 1944 or 1945  silver piece.
When the Japanese invaded the Philippines they took control of the economy by confiscating all the money. They then issued Japanese Government Pesos. Possession of any other currency or coinage was punished by death.
When MacArthur returned, all money issued by the enemy became worthless. The Army brought coins and currency issued by the US government, so as to rapidly re-establish the economy, and aid in our war effort.
Intense war time need caused these coins to be heavily circulated. At auction is one of the few pieces that remain high grade after 74 years.
