    Description

The Military Order of Savoy was an honorary order of the Kingdom of Sardinia and later became an order awarded by the Kingdom of Italy which was abolished after WWII.
The medal was awarded to all ranks for meritorious conduct and was also given to foreigners.
This is the Grand Cross of the Knight’s class of the order.
Field Marshal Irwin Rommel was a recipient of this award along with a number of other famous historical figures.
The star is silver-plated and has a white enamel cross, green and red laurel branches, the date 1855 and two crossed gilt swords.
The initials VE are those of Italian King Victor Emanuel.  It measures 83 mm width and height and weighs 40 grams (1.4 oz.).  The star has a vertical pin-and-catch mechanism as well as two vertically-mounted catches which attach to loops sewn onto the tunic.
I just received five of these stars.  If I run out, please send me a message if you need one and I'll try to get a few more of these beautiful pieces.
