Harker Pottery Serving Platter
. The oval semi porcelain serving platter is 14" long x 10 1/2" wide, and is 1/2" deep with an empress rim. The platter is in great shape with expected crazing and typical staining for a 19th Century piece. I've used this platter for decades and can tell you that, at its face, it has a couple of rough 'spots' and a few 'bubbles' in the bottom's glazing but there are no cracks anywhere. Honestly, the end's edges have seen the worst wear with chipping on both... zoom in on photos 7, 8 and 9 to see the roughest end... side view, top view and bottom view of the chips' appearances. Photo 10 shows the platter's prettier end; photos 5 and 6 show the platter's long sides, also both pretty. The platter weighs in at just under 3#.
Note that this is similar to a couple of Homer Laughlin's pattern variations (no trim or bands, though), and it bears the iconic stamp of '

',
Harker Pottery
. Harker (since 1840) was the first pottery plant in Liverpool, Ohio and was in business before the neighbor (Homer Laughlin) broke ground next door. I don't know if the plants worked together at some point to fill demand, but this particular platter's mark is that of a true
Harker Pottery
semi porcelain piece predating 1900, per Lehner's.
