his awesome
Harker China,
child's "OLD MCDONALD'S FARM" Nursery Rhyme rolling pin is a must for your collection.
Harker China made a series of these rolling pins, which included
"Mary Had A Little Lamb," " A Hunting We Will Go" and "Old McDonald's Farm." Other decorations have also been found, and some of the rolling pins have a children's nursery rhyme scene on one side and advertising for various establishments on the other side. Harker made the advertising rolling pins for companies who wanted to promote their businesses with give aways.
Child's piggy banks with the same decals were also made by Harker to accompany the rolling pins. This adorable " Old McDonald's Farm" rolling pin is in
Undamaged Condition without chips, cracks, or mold damage.
The rolling pin shows a rooster and goat on one side, and a horse and a barn swallow on the opposite side. The gold trim on the rolling pin is very good with only minor wear from age. I would rate the trim at least 90%. The cork is original and intact.
The Harker China Company
Harker China Company was established in 1840 by a gentleman from England named Benjamin Harker. Benjamin Harker moved from England and settled in Ohio on the banks of the Ohio River.
Harker first produced yellow ware and Rockingham which was produced from local clay. In 1847 Benjamin Harker died and the company was run by his sons Benjamin Jr., and George under several different names. In 1857 Benjamin and George separated and Benjamin took a partner and operated his company under the name Harker and Smith. George operated the George S. Harker Pottery Company which became the Harker Pottery Company we know today. This company became famous for its many dinnerware and kitchen ware patterns and shapes. Some of their most famous patterns were Mallow and Cameo Ware. They also made many accessory items like rolling pins and children's banks. This incredible company stayed in business until 1972 when the Jeannette Glass Company bought the factory.
